A branching fossil sponge from SW Nevada
Ryan Manzuk

About me:

My name is Ryan, and I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Geosciences department at Princeton University, advised by Professor Adam Maloof. As a scientist, I am excited about geobiological research that investigates the feedbacks between physical environment, climate, and biological evolution. I am especially passionate about how rich stories of Earth's history (and life on it) can help us better understand the future of the Earth-life system in the face of human perturbation. I look for these stories through computational and quantitative investigation of the physical properties of ancient environments preserved in rocks, concentrating mostly on fossil reefs like the one pictured in the background. For more on my work, be sure to check out my research page.

Outside of being a rock nerd, I maintain a passion for running and fitness stemming from my college track days at UChicago. I am a returned Peace Corps volunteer, having spent two years prior to graduate school in Guinea working with a small village on sustainable food production practices. As a geologist, I also love camping, hiking, and trying to take pretty pictures of the outdoors (and rocks).
